GOLF
Annual Golf Fundraiser
It is with great pleasure that we are partnered with the Waimakariri Gorge Golf Club to undertake our annual fundraiser. This event would not be possible without the support of the Golf Club and their wonderful team of volunteers.
The Cancer Society’s Canterbury-West Coast Division currently runs two accommodation facilities in Christchurch - Daffodil House and Daffodil Lodge. These facilities provide a home away from home for people from around the South Island while they are receiving cancer treatment in Christchurch. Di Hone from Hanmer Springs was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in November 2020. The tumour was 55mm in size and was a high grade (fast growing) cancer which had already spread to Di’s lymph nodes. Di’s treatment consisted of chemotherapy first to shrink the tumour and then a double mastectomy, followed by 5 weeks of radiation. Di stayed at Daffodil House while she was having chemotherapy and at Daffodil Lodge following her surgery and while having radiation. “I can’t say enough about Daffodil House,” Di says. “It’s amazing!” “It really is a home away from home,” she says. Di says meeting other people at Daffodil House with all kinds of cancer also helped her put things into perspective. “I was angry for about three weeks,” she says. “Then I met so many other cancer patients young and old with greater issues than me and I was blown away.” “I thought to myself my journey is nothing compared to all these people.”
